Wrestler Vinesh Phogat declares her retirement the day after
she was knocked out from the Olympics. Due to the disqualification she shall be
obtaining no medal for the prior matches, as pronounced by the Olympic community.
The nation’s heart breaks for Vinesh’s tragedic conclusion
in the game of wrestling. The wrestler posted on X on Thursday, “ Mom, forgive
me. Wrestling beat me, I’ve lost. Your dreams and my courage are broken. I don’t
have strength anymore to fight,”.
Reportedly, Yusneylis Guzman Lopez, who was defeated by
Vinesh in the semi final fought against Sarah
Hildebrandt in the final match and failed again. Lopez took silver home. Prime
Minister Narendra Modi expounded his despair upon this misfortune saying, “ wish
words could express the sense of despair
that in am experiencing.” Sakshi Malik, the Rio Olympic bronze medallist said
upon this incident: “ if it was possible I would have given my medal to Vinesh.”
Bajrang Punia, the Tokyo Olympic medallist reacted to this and said, “ the
whole country is unable to hold back it’s tears.”
Millions of Indians hoped for gold as Vinesh herself did
when she showed her brilliance in the Paris Olympics and reached the final. She
mounted excellent when she defeated the four-times Yui Susaki world champion
earlier in the tournament. Vinesh generally competed in the category of 53 kgs
but weighed down to 50 kgs for the Olympics. The wrestler was found 100 grams
over weight earlier in the morning which was out of the tournament rules that
made her disqualify entirely. Indian sports officials talked with Olympics
authority but the later did not grant their request.
